Winterfest 2024

  • The Preserve at Chocorua 88 Philbrick Neighborhood Road Tamworth, NH, 03886 United States (map)

FOOD AND FIRE, NATURE AND ART, INDOORS AND OUTDOORS, COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS AND FUN!

On Saturday, February 10 from 2:00-10:00PM, join Chocorua Lake Conservancy (CLC) and Tamworth Outing Club (TOC) for a Winter Fest and TOC Second Saturday Contra Dance at The Preserve at Chocorua. Come gather with friends and neighbors for fun activities indoors and out.

From 2:00-5:00PM, as weather permits, we’ll have sledding and snowshoeing (bring your own equipment if you have it), a communal snow sculpture with naturalist educators Lucy Gatchell and Dexter Harding, a display of handmade snowshoes and trapping gear and stories of Alaska with Dave Evans; a moose learning station for kids and everyone with CLC Stewardship Director Debra Marnich; winter stories by the fire with storyteller Andy Davis (at 4:00PM), a mini sled dog exhibit with Tamworth History Center (and maybe even meet a Chinook!); as well as bonfires, treats, & hot drinks.

At 5:00PM, we’ll head indoors (mostly) for beer & wine by donation; a cocktail hour story with Andy Davis at 5:20PM; a delicious supper (vegetarian & gluten free options) and dessert; a kid- and beginner-friendly family dance with White Mountain Céilí Band and caller Lucy Gatchell at 6:30PM; and at 7:30 PM, the Tamworth Outing Club Second Saturday Contra Dance with White Mountain Céilí Band and caller Byron Ricker.

We’ll also have a silent auction with art, handmade quilts and knitwear, collector’s items, and more from 2:00-7:00PM. All auction and event proceeds will benefit the Tamworth Outing Club and the Chocorua Lake Conservancy.

Outdoor activities from 2-5PM are free; no registration is required. Tickets are required indoors for supper, indoor storytelling, and the evening dance: $5 for kids (6 and under are free); adults are “choose your price”: $15, $30, or $50—please support these two organizations as generously as you are able. Please register in advance; this event sold out early last year, and tickets will not be available at the door. Storm date is March 9.

If you are coming from out of town and would like to book a room at The Preserve and make a weekend of it, please contact Alex Moot at amoot@chocorualake.org or (603) 323-6252. Room rental proceeds will also benefit the work of CLC & TOC. A rare chance to stay at this beautiful New England inn!

REGISTRATION WILL OPEN ON JANUARY 8

Thank you so much to event sponsor The Preserve at Chocorua. Thank you also to Carroll County Conservation District, Thirst Productions, and all our auction donors and volunteers.
