Tamworth provides many opportunities for aficionados of both summer and winter recreation, notably hiking, canoeing, sailing, fishing, camping, and cross-country skiing and snowmobiling in the winter.

ABOUT

Tamworth celebrated its 250th anniversary in 2016, and the best years are ahead of us.  Many new businesses have opened, offering places to stay, camp, eat, shop, or celebrate a wedding, family gathering, corporate retreat or reunion.

With its majestic backdrop of Mount Chocorua, the most photographed mountain in America, Tamworth, New Hampshire is a picturesque town offering dramatic mountain views from many locations. Lake Chocorua, White Lake, flowing brooks and rivers, trout streams and ponds all contribute to the natural beauty and scenic vistas found at every turn. Because of its charming rural character and proximity to the White Mountain National Forest,

Tamworth is home to the oldest repertory theatre in the United States, The Barnstormers, which boasts an eclectic summer program of plays. Arts Tamworth supports many other cultural and educational endeavors including music, art exhibits and workshops. A favorite venue for residents and visitors alike is the Remick Country Doctor and Farm Museum, which hosts many workshops, talks, exhibits and festivals in keeping with the seasons. The town hosts Tamworth Family Day with music, food and games on every 4th of July immediately after the annual parade, followed by a huge fireworks display in the evening.

Famous people throughout the years have lived in Tamworth, including former President Grover Cleveland, Henry David Thoreau, and John Greenleaf Whittier, who received much of his inspiration from the surrounding beauty of the town.

wet paint 2024 - april 30 - may 3

The Tamworth Visitors Council has planned a wonderful experience for artists, collectors and art lovers to enjoy and celebrate these artists and their works in nature here in Tamworth. Wet Paint is dedicated to preserving the rich artistic legacy established by many early Plein Air Artists. Details here

Around 20 plein air artists will be coming back to Tamworth to paint on April 30th to May 3rd. The Retreat will give artists time to discover and paint the beautiful area that we are lucky enough to call home. Paintings done during the retreat will be on display for the public in The Hayford Barn at The Preserve from Tuesday to Friday.

Be sure to check out the acclaimed Tamworth Farmers Market, running every Saturday outdoors at the UUFES Church parking lot, from Mid May to the end of October, then every two weeks indoors at the Brett School from Nov thru the Holidays, then in the Tamworth Town House Jan through April.
